Why I Won’t Join the Chorus of Outrage

In today’s social media landscape, the impulse to rant, repost, and react is constant. Outrage feels productive. Mockery feels satisfying. But too often, these habits only amplify division, fuel misunderstanding, and shut down any chance for meaningful dialogue.
When we share content designed to shame, shock, or “own” the other side, we don’t educate—we entrench. We don’t persuade—we polarize. And we certainly don’t build the civic trust our democracy so desperately needs.
I choose not to participate in that cycle. Not because I lack passion or conviction, but because I believe that real change comes from something deeper: conversation, curiosity, and a willingness to listen—even when it’s uncomfortable.
The Citizens’ Project 2025 is my response to this political moment. It’s not about partisan victory. It’s about civic repair. It’s about reclaiming our shared humanity in an age that rewards performance over principle. This project invites all of us to rise above political tribalism and engage as citizens—not just as content consumers or party loyalists.
We are better than viral videos and weaponized outrage. We are more than the worst of what gets the most clicks.
I know this won’t appeal to everyone. Some are so steeped in party identity that the idea of collaboration feels like betrayal. But I’m not speaking to those hardened by ideology—I’m speaking to the hopeful. The ones who still believe in the power of people to shape a more just, inclusive, and functional democracy.
We must stop asking:
How do I win the argument? and start asking: What helps us move forward?
Before you share, ask yourself:
- Is this helpful?
- Is this true?
- Is this a balm—or a grenade?
Let’s model something better. Not performative unity—but principled citizenship. Not empty outrage—but courageous empathy.
The Citizens' Project isn't about scoring points. It's about building the civic culture we need to face hard truths, find common ground, and forge a future that includes all of us.
We don’t have to agree on everything to fight for something better—together.
Join us in rebuilding civic trust.
